Supporting the country’s effort to transform its energy matrix, and promote sustainable development in the country, Latitud explores options of renewable energy sources. These include the production of biofuels from lignocellulosic materials, such as waste from the forestry chain, energy crops and other raw materials. The Foundation develops and investigates pre-treatment, saccharification and fermentation processes for different types of biomass, in the search of high value-added chemicals for the development of economically viable production systems, which, organized under the concept of a biorefinery, may maximize the use of resources.
